Binka's August 2007 Submissions!

On one day this month, on one of my human's days off from work, we thought we would go a ride around some of the villages near Clitheroe. They are very picturesque, but I got a bit tired of taking countryside photos and, as this month's topic includes windows and doors, I thought that I might take a look at one or two of the churches around there, as I know that some churches have beautiful stained glass windows.
At Downham I saw, in the churchyard wall, a door which had had lots of nails banged into it. Maybe someone was very bored one day and thought that he would fill some time in by banging nails into the door, it must have taken quite some considerable time. I think that I might have seen a door like this on an old dungeon once. Maybe it makes the doors stronger, but I don't know who they thought might want to escape from the graveyard, they might easily climb over the wall, anyway, or drift through it.

In the village church at Waddington, I was surprised to find a window showing a man surrounded by birds. The writing says he is St Francis of Assisi (who is the patron saint of animals) which makes him seem like a good subject for a photo for the club, so, I am sending a foto of that, too.

The three small photographs of the stained glass window show Binka's enhancement of the original photograph. He is a very clever cat!

Binka's September 2007 Submissions!

Hello Henri, I saw that one of the subjects that we could use this month is churches, so, I took a look around a church in the centre of Bolton and took some fotos of it. When I looked at some of the fotos I got of the outside of it I thought that some of the gargoyles might be suitable subjects for the "Glowing Edges" effect in Paint Shop Pro, so that is what I used on the fotos. I couldn't make my mind up, out of 3 fotos, which 2 to send, so I sent all the 3 that I thought were OK, if you like you can choose which one not to use.

Henri here: I thought the photos that Binka sent of the gargoyles were so good that I put them all up!

Binka's October 2007 Submissions!
This is my foto for October. It is a foto of my back fence. I used a small tripod and pointed the camera up at the fence and the sky from very near the ground. When I got the foto out of the camera I thought that it looked a bit boring and I thought that it looked better when I flipped it upside down. The sky was all the same grey colour in the original foto, though, and I thought that it would look better with a different sky, so I used the magic wand tool in PSP, selected the boring uniform grey sky and then inverted the selection, so that the fence was selected instead, copied the fence and pasted it as a new layer onto a different foto of the sky, that I had taken at an earlier date. I thought that this sky was more dramatic. When I had done this, though, it looked more like a foto of a roof made out of beams and lats and still wasn't very interesting, I think, so, I resized the layer with the fence on it, so that it had sky all round it and it didn't look so much like just a foto of a roof.
